• Impeller on the left side of turbocharger.
• Turbine on the right side.
• Connecting shaft,free floating bearing,oil lubrication center housing.
  

Causes Of Premature Wear or Failure.

• Poor oil quality.
• Dirt ingestion.
• Hot engine shutdown.
• Signs up quicker for good engine response.
• Regulates turbocharger speed and prevents over speeding.
• The wastegate is opened by the high pressure boost in the compressor side of the turbocharger.
• Some of the exhaust gas then bypasses the turbine and escapes wastes to the exhaust stack.
  

Caterpillar Engine Turbocharger Failure.

• If the turbocharger fails during engine operation damage to the turbocharger compressor wheel or to the engine may occur.Damage to the turbocharger compressor wheel could allow parts from the compresser wheel to enter an engine cylinder.This can cause additional additional damage to the the piston,valves and the cylinder head.
• Turbocharger bearing failure can cause large quantities of oil enter to the oil inlet and exhaust system loss of engine lubricant can result in serious engine damage.
• Minor leakage of a turbocharger housing under extended low idel operation should not cause problems as long as a turbocharger bearing failure has not occurred.
• When a turbocharger bearing failure is accompained by a significant engine performance loss exhaust smoke or engine rpm up at no load do not continue engine operation until the turbocharger is repaired or replaced.
